Inter Pares Film Nights: A Girl in the River: The price of forgiveness

Mar 08, 2017

This documentary film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy traces the story of an 18-year-old Pakistani girl who survives an assassination attempt by her father and brother.

More than 1,000 women are victims each year of “honour killings,” most often at the hands of their own family members. This Oscar award-winning film highlights the gap between tradition and modernity within Pakistani society, and is a clarion call for change. Honor crimes are still prevalent in many societies, where perpetrators largely enjoy impunity.
