Solidarity in action: Meet Doug Ward voices : Personal Story Share Print “There is not much I can do, alone, and that is why I am so glad Inter Pares is there to do this important work—with a little help from friends like you and me.” Doug Ward has supported Inter Pares for nearly 40 years. This year, as we raise funds for our counterparts facing extraordinary challenges—severe aid cuts and brutal wars—Doug is showing up in solidarity in a big way. Doug will match all donations made to Inter Pares before the end of 2025, up to $20,000! “I support Inter Pares because I care about social justice, and I know social justice is not given freely by governments,” says Doug. "We need a strong citizens’ movement to hold government’s hand to the fire, if we want to make substantial progress both in Canada and abroad. Inter Pares knows that.” Doug had a 30-year career with the CBC, first as a producer on the fledgling As It Happens, and later as a regional director, helping to strengthen the voices of Indigenous northerners during the struggle for self-government. In his retirement, he devoted two decades to chairing the board of Farm Radio International, an organization that uses radio and mobile phones to amplify the voices of tens of millions of people in rural sub-Saharan Africa. He was also Chair of the Board of Inter Pares from 1998 to 2003. In 2016, Doug was awarded the Order of Canada. He lives in Ottawa with his wife Terry Richmond. Through it all, his commitment and solidarity have encouraged us to continue striving for a just and equal world. "Inter Pares has an impressive decades-long record of finding and connecting social justice movements and then accompanying them along the rocky road to progress. That is solidarity...” We are so grateful for Doug's trust in us and his commitment to social justice. It is because of people like Doug that Inter Pares has been able to support courageous activists and counterparts for 50 years. Will you make a gift to Inter Pares today? Doug will match your gift, dollar for dollar—doubling your impact! Donate button Together, we are a lifeline of unwavering support to social justice activists around the world. Your donation, no matter the amount, is a powerful act of solidarity. Add new comment You must have JavaScript enabled to use this form. Your name Comment * Save Leave this field blank
