Uprooting Systemic Racism: Stories of Struggle event : Webinar Share Print It is widely understood that racism exists in our society – but does it boil down to a series of isolated acts? Or, are there structural and institutionalized policies and practices that perpetuate racism and allow it to persist? Join us on February 25th as we take a deep dive into why systemic racism exists and hear powerful testimonies from activists on the frontlines of this struggle as they share successful efforts underway to recognize, denounce, and uproot structural racism. Speakers Olive Kamanyana, Chair of the Board, Leaderpol Olive is President/Founder of LeaderPOL - Leadership for People of African Descent. LeaderPOL was born out of the realization that Black people are not represented in Canadian political and institutional bodies, whether at the municipal, provincial or federal level. Olive is a Manager in the federal public service. She is also a doctoral student at the Université du Québec en Outaouais where she is studying public policy and the social responsibility of Canadian mining companies abroad. Alexandra Pierre, Chair of the Board, La Ligue des droits et libertés Alexandra Pierre has been active and working in community and women's groups for the past 15 years. Through her experiences as a community organizer and in the research community, she is interested in feminist issues as well as issues of migration and racism. She has been involved with La Ligue des droits et libertés since 2014 and was recently elected president. Martine Éloy, Board member, La Ligue des droits et libertés Martine has worked in the health care and labour communities. Since 2001, she has been active in La Ligue des droits et libertés, as a member of the Board of Directors, the Population Monitoring Committee and the Committee on Racism and Social Exclusion. A fighter for the respect of the rights of all, she has been involved in many other struggles, notably within the feminist movement and the Collectif Échec à la guerre. Moderator: Charlotte Kiddell Charlotte is Co-Executive Director of Inter Pares, sharing the role with Samantha McGavin. Charlotte is also part of the fundraising and donor relations team, and is one of two staff leads for the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH). Watch the webinar here:
