This Digital Privacy Policy affirms our commitment to your privacy and establishes the methods by which privacy is ensured. This Digital Privacy Policy applies to all personal information procured through Inter Pares’ website or through an intermediary website and retained within Inter Pares’ records.

Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information is important to Inter Pares. Collecting, using, and disclosing personal information in an appropriate, responsible, and ethical manner is fundamental to the way we operate. We strive to protect and respect all personal information in accordance with all applicable regional and federal laws and in accordance with our ethical responsibility.

Individuals are entitled to know how Inter Pares uses personal information.  Inter Pares will limit the use of any personal information collected only to what is needed for the purposes stated in this policy. We will obtain individual consent if personal information is to be used for any other purpose. Inter Pares will not use your personal information without your consent.

Consent occurs and is obtained when you complete a form containing personal information, thereby authorizing Inter Pares to collect, use, and disclose your personal information for the purposes stated on the form or in the Use of Information section of this policy. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Inter Pares may use personal information without your consent in the event that Inter Pares is under obligation by law to disclose personal information in order to adhere to the requirements of an investigation of the contravention of a provincial or federal law, under the purview of the appropriate authorities.

Use of Information

Inter Pares collects and uses personal information solely for the following purposes:

  1. Creating and managing your record in our offline fundraising database.
  2. Communicating with you. This may include responding to emails or calls from you.
  3. Supplying you with regular updates by email or postal mail, upon your request. You may unsubscribe at any time by contacting Inter Pares or updating your communication preferences.
  4. With your permission and where permitted by law, we may also use your personal data for fundraising purposes, which may include inviting you to donate to Inter Pares. You will not be sent any unlawful marketing or spam.
  5. Occasionally Inter Pares exchanges donor lists with like-minded organizations. This is a cost-effective way to reach new supporters. Donors are always provided the opportunity to opt-out of list exchanges.

Online Donations

If you donate and share your personally identifying information, this information will be used to provide you with a tax receipt, our thanks, and more information about our work. We may use your contact information to send further information about our organization or to contact you when necessary. Donors may update their communications preferences at any time by completing this webform or by contacting donors@interpares.ca.

Any registration or order form asking site visitors to enter financial information is secure and will be protected by SSL encryption*.

Sending Us an E-mail

You may decide to send Inter Pares personally identifying information, for example, in an e-mail containing a question or comment. We use personally identifying information from email primarily to respond to your requests. We may also use your email to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.

Protection of Personal Information

Inter Pares maintains personal information through a combination of paper and electronic files. Donation information will be stored in our secure offline fundraising database.

Inter Pares will protect personal information with the appropriate security measures, including physical safeguards and electronic precautions. Where permitted by law, older records may be stored in a secure, offsite location. Where laws require that certain personal information be kept for a specified amount of time, the law will supercede this policy.

Access to personal information will be authorized only for the employees and other agents of Inter Pares who require the information to perform their job duties, and to those otherwise authorized by law.

Under no circumstances will Inter Pares sell personal information or contact lists to third parties. However, limited disclosure to consultants or contractors of Inter Pares may be required for the communications and fundraising uses outlined above, with the understanding that these parties abide by this Digital Privacy Policy.

Inter Pares may compile and use demographic information that has no personal identifiers; such information cannot be linked to personal records or used to identify individuals.
