Ensuring dignity for all = Peace December 23, 2014 Share Print Today’s video features Pilar Trujillo Uribe, Executive Director of Project Counselling Service (PCS), one of our long-term counterparts in Latin America. “As a Colombian woman, I believe that we desperately need to end the perpetuation of hostility and war in our country, but much more than that, we need a society where social justice can exist, a society with equalities and where the gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘the have nots’ is not overwhelming.” PCS works with community-based organizations in Latin America, in regions heavily affected by decades-long internal armed conflicts where impunity has been the norm for too long. More recently, PCS and the local counterparts that we jointly support have: worked with local communities impacted by armed conflict in Colombia to ensure their voices are heard in the peace talks; provided psychological support to Indigenous women forced into sexual slavery by the military during the armed conflict in Guatemala. As a result, fifteen women gave testimony in a historic trial that incriminated senior army officers; supported Indigenous women who were victims of forced sterilization during the internal conflict in Peru to shine a light on this terrible crime which has been denied by successive governments. Every gift big or small this holiday season will help the efforts of our counterparts to rebuild the social fabric that has been so damaged from agonizing periods of war. On the road to dignity, your gift goes a long way. Help us continue to work for peace and dignity for all.
