ONIC (Organización Nacional Indígena de Colombia, National Indigenous Organization of Colombia) was formed in 1982. Its mission is the defense of the rights of indigenous people through strategies that defend indigenous autonomy and that work toward unified positions, and is currently the most important actor of its kind in Colombia.

It represents many indigenous communities and has been important in raising the profile of indigenous issues in Colombia, both nationally and internationally.

Inter Pares specifically supports the ONIC’s Women, Family and Generation area, which seeks to ensure a women’s perspective around the organization’s directions, enhancing women’s participation in representation of every indigenous peoples part of the ONIC.
