The Promise of Legal Equality for Women: Stories of Struggle from Sudan and Canada event : Webinar Share Print The Promise of Legal Equality for Women: Stories of Struggle from Sudan and Canada Tuesday November 212:00pm – 1:00pm EST Featuring Dr. Asha El-KaribThe Sudanese Organization for Research and Development (Sudan)Dr. Amanda DaleCanadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability (Canada) The webinar will be in English. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in French. The webinar will be recorded. Register here There are fundamental, comprehensive changes required in the legal framework in a post-revolution Sudan in order for women to be able to fully assert their rights. Concurrently, research from the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Accountability and Justice paints a stark picture of the social and legal gaps that deny women in Canada their full agency. Join us as we bring together Asha El-Karib, of Inter Pares’ long-term counterpart, the Sudanese Organization for Research and Development, and Amanda Dale, of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability, for a dialogue on legal equality for women in Sudan and Canada. They will explore the local manifestations of a global pandemic of violence against women; the difficulties in using the legal systems to access justice; the centrality of listening to women’s rights advocates when crafting judicial mechanisms; and the potential of international solidarity. Inter Pares acknowledges Global Affairs Canada for their financial support for the Building Momentum for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights program.
