WATCH | 50 years of social justice action news : Updates May 15, 2025 Share Print On May 12, we hosted an evening of reflection, celebration and inspiration with social justice activists—and marked Inter Pares’ 50th anniversary! The evening featured a conversation with friends and allies Dr. Sylvia "Guy" Estrada Claudio (Likhaan Center for Women’s Health, Philippines), Jamie Kneen (MiningWatch Canada), Esperanza Moreno (former Board member, Inter Pares) and Mariamé Ouattara (gender and development expert, Burkina Faso). Brian Murphy (former staff member, Inter Pares) provided opening remarks. Watch Featuring Dr. Sylvia Estrada Claudio | Likhaan Center for Women’s Health, Philippines Sylvia, known by her nickname, Guy, is co-founder of Likhaan. An activist and academic, Guy is former dean of the College of Social Work and Community Development of the University of the Philippines and a leading proponent of feminist counseling in the Philippines. She’s the author of two books and has a regular column in a leading Philippine digital media outlet. Jamie Kneen | MiningWatch Canada Jamie has been engaged with resource management issues, including mining and Indigenous land rights, for many years. He advocates on mining policy at MiningWatch Canada, where he leads policy reform and provides strategic and technical support to communities affected by mining projects in Canada. Esperanza Moreno | former Board member, Inter Pares Esperanza has worked in international cooperation for more than 25 years, including as deputy director of Cooperation Canada and Oxfam Québec. Today, Esperanza is an organizational development consultant with non-profits in Latin America and Canada. Mariamé Ouattara | Gender and development expert, Burkina Faso Mariamé has worked in West Africa to promote gender equality and the rights of women farmers for more than 30 years. She was involved in founding the Coalition for the Protection of African Genetic Heritage (COPAGEN). She is currently working as a regional gender equality expert for the Women-led Agroecology project with Inter Pares. Brian Murphy | Former staff member, Inter Pares Brian is an independent analyst, organizer, educator and writer. He is on the steering committee of the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group, which he helped found. He authored the book, Transforming Ourselves, Transforming the World, An Open Conspiracy for Social Change and writes at Murphyslog.ca.
