Inter Pares is saddened and alarmed by the recent outbreak of violence in Sudan, which remains ongoing. We are monitoring the situation closely.

On Saturday, April 15 fighting broke out in Khartoum, Sudan between paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the military. As of April 19, around 300 people had been killed and more than 3,000 injured, according to the World Health Organization.

We are in contact with our long-term counterpart organizations based in Khartoum, the staff of which are safe at this time. But like millions across the city, they are sheltering in place with limited food and water.

Due to the violence, all counterpart activities are paused for the time being.

Inter Pares has worked with counterparts in Sudan since 2007. We remain committed to supporting their work to provide legal services for women experiencing sexual and gender-based violence, bolster women’s political participation, strengthen Sudanese women’s civil society and advocate for LGBTQI+ rights.

We are in solidarity with the people of Sudan and their struggle for freedom from violence and equal participation in society.
