Dr. Cynthia Maung: A model for women’s leadership resources : Video Share Print Dr. Cynthia Maung is the director of the Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, a small town on Thailand's western border with Burma. She was forced to flee Burma in 1988, and has been providing critical healthcare to people from Burma for 25 years. In this 15-minute video, we provide a brief overview of our Burma program before we take a closer look at the work of Dr. Cynthia. You will meet several of our program partners as they speak to her inspirational leadership: • Pippa Curwen, executive director of the Burma Relief Centre (BRC). BRC is a long-term counterpart of ours and a major collaborator on our Burma program, providing direct accompaniment and support to over 60 civil society groups within Burma and in five neighbouring countries. • Sally Thompson, executive director of The Burma Consortium (TBC). Inter Pares has provided financial and political support for close to 20 years to TBC, which offers food and material supplies and organizational management skills to self-managed refugee camps in Thailand and to internally displaced people in Burma. • Charm Tong, co-founder of the Shan Women's Action Network (SWAN). Through community-based action, research, and advocacy, SWAN promotes gender equality and justice for Shan women in the struggle for social and political change in Burma. SWAN is a long-term partner with Inter Pares and also a member of the Women’s League of Burma, itself a lead partner in our Burma program. You will also hear from Dr. Cynthia herself speaking of the current context in Burma, and have a glimpse of the amazing medical facility that she co-founded and leads.
