Action Plan for Working in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in Canada news : Updates September 30, 2021 Share Print On the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we share Inter Pares’ Action Plan for Working in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in Canada. With our office on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Omàmiwinini (Algonquin people), this Action Plan is born from our journey to better understand the history and impact of colonialism in this country, as well as how we benefit from and contribute to perpetuating injustices against Indigenous peoples. It also represents our commitment to challenging the unjust systems of power that persist today. The Action Plan articulates our commitment to engage deeper and more intentionally on Indigenous rights and in collaboration with Indigenous peoples. Part 1 outlines our vision, goals and process for working in solidarity with Indigenous peoples in Canada. It is intended to guide us through current and future iterative implementation plans as we continue on a path of learning. Part 2 (available upon request) outlines specific actions we are taking over a three-year period in building relationships, developing new and continuing existing programming, and in facilitating learning. We share it today with the hopes that it will be a useful resource for individuals and organizations seeking to actualize their commitment to solidarity, decolonization, reconciliation, and justice for Indigenous peoples in Canada. The Action Plan was initially developed during 2018-2019 by a small team of Inter Pares staff in consultation with all staff, board of directors, and some Indigenous allies who shared their expertise. We would especially like to honour and recognize Viola Thomas for her wisdom, guidance, and patience as she accompanied Inter Pares through this process. As we approach the end of its first implementation period, we are in the process of renewing the Action Plan and would welcome any feedback. The Action Plan articulates our commitment to engage deeper and more intentionally on Indigenous rights and in collaboration with Indigenous peoples.
