2014 Speakers Series 2014: Health and Humanity – The global struggle for universal health care June 16, 2014 Share Print On April 28, 2014, two leading activists, Mike McBane and Dr. Junice Melgar shared their reflections and experiences in the struggle for access to quality healthcare. This conference was hosted by Inter Pares as part of its Annual Speaker Series, an annual meeting where we convene activists from around the world and from here in Canada to share their views on the different issues Inter Pares addresses. Watch the conversation: About our speakers Dr. Junice Melgar lives and works in the Philippines. She is the cofounder and executive director of Likhaan Centre for Women’s Health, an organization of grassroots and professional activists dedicated to transforming health policies and programs for women, based on social justice, women’s empowerment and participatory democracy. Mike McBane has 25 years of experience working in coalitions on issues relating to Medicare, privatization, food and drug safety and economic justice. At the time, he was the National Coordinator of the Canadian Health Coalition, a public advocacy organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of Canada’s Medicare system.
