Government of Canada announces meaningful investment in SRHR news : In the News June 07, 2019 Share Print Credit: Future Planning Initiative On June 4, 2019, during the Women Deliver conference, the Government of Canada announced a commitment of $1.4 billion, annually, to promote the health and rights of women and girls around the world over a ten-year period. Within this initiative, $700 million will be directed towards sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Inter Pares applauds this remarkable commitment, particularly its ten-year scope, and the inclusion of advocacy, adolescent reproductive health, contraception and safe abortion. We appreciate this announcement at such a critical time for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and look forward to engaging with the government around the implementation. Inter Pares has been an active and engaged member of the Future Planning Initiative (FPI) since the Initiative’s founding in 2015. A coalition of six organizations, the FPI worked together to strengthen Canada’s global leadership on sexual and reproductive health and rights. We are proud of this collaborative endeavour and see this announcement as a true reflection of the power of collective advocacy, research, and analysis. Thank you to all of the members of the Future Planning Initiative for your dedication to ensure women worldwide have access to a full range of sexual and reproductive health services.
