Sudanese Organization for Research and Development (SORD) was established in 2007 by Dr. Asha El-Karib, one of Sudan’s foremost feminists.

SORD’s principle aim is to work towards empowering the Sudanese people to actively enjoy their rights as responsible citizens. It is an advocacy organization active in the areas of engendering democracy, girls’ education, women and the law, and social exclusion.

SORD has a particularly strong gender justice program, which endeavours to change legislation and policy concerning child marriage, laws conflating adultery and rape in the criminal code and various discriminatory aspects of family law.
