Open for Justice: Training webinar for engaging your MP event : Webinar Share Print Please note that the webinar will be recorded. If you are interested but not available, register and make a note in the comments section saying that you cannot attend but would like the link. You will then automatically receive the link to the recording afterwards. To register: http://www.unitedforminingjustice.com/open-for-justice-webinar Right now, Inter Pares has an opportunity to make a huge difference in mining justice and corporate accountability in Canada - and we need your help to make it work. All the 30-plus members of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) - including Inter Pares - are reaching out to their members to update them on exciting new developments in the Open for Justice campaign and to ask for their help. During this training webinar, you will learn about recent campaign activities, current political opportunities, and how you can help by engaging your MP in any way you feel comfortable. About the campaign Canada is home to more than half of the world’s mining companies, with active projects in more than 100 countries. Canadian mining, oil and gas companies are often viewed as representatives of Canada abroad, but human rights abuses, environmental damage, displacement and violations of basic labour rights are increasingly associated with these projects. Since this campaign launched two years ago, the political landscape has shifted. The asks haven’t changed, but the political opportunities have. We have a chance now, but we will only be successful if a significant number of Canadians from across the country take action to hold the government to its promises. Join Inter Pares and the CNCA to hear more about Open for Justice, why it's necessary, and how you can be part of it. About the webinar In the 90-minute webinar, participants will: Hear an update about the Open for Justice Campaign and the recent launch of model legislation to create an extractive sector ombudsperson to hold Canadian mining companies accountable Learn how to engage your member of parliament (MP) through office visits, phone calls, and/or targeted letter writing Hear how others have been received by their MP and some of the common questions MPs ask Have an opportunity to ask questions so that you feel prepared to take action If you have any questions, please contact Jack Hui Litster.
