NEW video series highlights Likhaan Center for Women’s Health news : Updates July 04, 2019 Share Print In collaboration with the Likhaan Center for Women’s Health in the Philippines, Inter Pares is pleased to announce the launch of a new video series, The Purple Wave: Health on the Margins. This series of five short videos gives an up-close look at how Likhaan uses alternative, community-based health programs and advocacy to promote women’s reproductive health and well-being. In each of the videos, watch as Likhaan health promoters, community organizers, and medical staff address reproductive health issues in marginalized communities in the capital city of Manila by providing services and by educating women and girls. The videos also highlight how community organizing and advocacy can serve as a powerful tool to bring about positive and sustainable change. Likhaan works in a very difficult context: extreme poverty, high rates of maternal and child mortality as well as teenage pregnancy, limited access to family planning, a lack of public funding for reproductive health, and policies that often do not support women’s health. Since 1995 Likhaan has worked in the most marginalized communities in Metro Manila delivering comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care. At the national level Likhaan plays a key role in advocating for improved health systems and policies. Inter Pares has been a proud supporter of Likhaan since it was formed. With funding from Global Affairs Canada, Inter Pares and Likhaan are currently building on many years of collaboration to scale up work on sexual and reproductive health in poor communities of Metro Manila and in rural East Samar in the Philippines.
